The British
The British Army where the first to use tanks as a solution for trench warfare in WW1 (Great War). The name “Tank” comes from the British Army informing the public that the large vehicles were in fact “large water carriers” hence the name “Tanks”.
Over the years since the Mark 1 (First Tank) the British have continued to operate and produce tanks for forces all over the world. Some notable designs over the years to come out of this island are the Churchill’s and Cromwell’s just to name a few.
Currently the British operate the challenger 2 as their main battel tank (MBT) which makes them the only NATO force to still use a Rifled Gun on their MBT, rather than a Smoothbore Gun. This however is due to change with the arrival of the Challenger 3 in 2020’s. Despite this It cannot be understated the role that the British have had in the creation and development of Tanks, and without them we might not have had the MBT’s which we know of today.
